	Unfortunate Endings

She sits in a dark vacant room

A spotlight showcases her shattered spirit

Her shadow cascades on the walls

Taller, scarier than she thought she was

"I don't have a place in this world anymore."

She whispers, hoping quietly someone will contradict her

The monsters from her past linger in the corners of her mind

And threaten to break her long made barriers

She suffers everyday of loneliness

The hardships she's faced have taught her not show it

One beautiful cello longs to be played

Laying on its side in front of her

The bow is made of smooth ebony

And strung with the shiny hair of a horse

She picks up the instrument

Twirls it around on the end pin

She places the bow on the string

And plays a long low note

Her fingers press hard on the string

And emit a strong filling sound

Her monsters disappear as she moves her fingers faster

And plays out her emotions into the atmosphere

A naturally beautiful melody

A story hummed lightly

"_Sam, come on!" he yelled frantically chasing her_

"_I don't want to talk to you!" she yelled behind her,_

_Picking up speed_

_Suddenly she dashed across the street_

_Through pouring rain and good luck_

_She made it gracefully to the other side_

_He moves just as quickly, darting across to catch her_

_She turned around once she was steady on the sidewalk_

_Turns out he wasn't as lucky_

_And her face crumbles…_

_The car honked its horn but the brakes were locked as he met his doom_

_He fell in slow motion to the wet pavement_

_He was in the hospital for three weeks_

_She felt more than guilty, yet never visited_

_When he came home in a permanent wheel chair,_

_She cried for three days straight_

_Her whole world got sucked into the ground that day_

_She lost herself_

_Couldn't look at him_

_It amazed her how he continued to smile_

"_Does he know he'll never be able to walk again?"_

_She thinks to herself_

She's still playing the beautiful tune

And her light sobs harmonize with it ominously

She regrets everything she did that day

Getting into a fight, stupid fight

Running across the street without looking

She knows she's never going to forgive herself

Even if he does

She doesn't speak to him

No matter how many times he calls her

It hurts too much to look at him

She punishes herself everyday

The guilt overwhelms her thoughts

Killing herself doesn't seem like an option

She thinks she deserves to suffer

So she becomes a chain smoker- takes ten years off her life

And she drinks whiskey like its water- takes thirty more

She knows she will never recover

It's been three years

And he still calls her once in while

His disability never stopped him from accomplishing his dreams

And she's happy for him

She let her life slip through her fingers

Spent all her money on cigarettes and booze

Living paycheck to paycheck

She finishes up the last note in her beautiful song

And the impressions on her fingers are numb

She looks around the room and forgets how she got there

She's suddenly inspired to get out

When she finds the door

The knob jiggles like a key in a lock

And it's over

Forever gone

She may not have had a place in this world

But at least she's free now
